The Gulf County Board of County Commissioners covered several projects and community issues at its latest meeting on August 25th, but the update that caught my attention most was Back Beach Road.

There is still a long way to go before this becomes a funded road project, but county leaders are working with the City of Port St. Joe on what comes next.

Back Beach Road

County officials recently met with representatives from the City of Port St. Joe to discuss Back Beach Road and reported that the conversation was productive. Both the city and county see the proposed road as a priority.

The July 27th Gulf County Board of County Commissioners meeting covered a wide range of topics, including infrastructure projects, public safety, parks, and legal updates. While several important items were discussed, one conversation stood out because of its potential long-term impact on Gulf County: Back Beach Road.

As more people move to our area and development continues, transportation planning is becoming increasingly important. Commissioners spent a significant portion of the meeting discussing the future of Back Beach Road, the original WindMark Development of Regional Impact (DRI) agreement, and what they believe must happen before additional development can proceed.

One of the biggest discussions focused on Back Beach Road and the original WindMark Development of Regional Impact (DRI). This agreement has guided the project's development for nearly two decades.

There's a certain kind of magic to spending the 4th of July on this stretch of coastline. Maybe it's the way the whole community turns out for it, golf carts decorated in red, white and blue, kids running around with sparklers, boats lined up on the water waiting for the fireworks to start. Whatever it is, once you've celebrated Independence Day down here, it's hard to imagine doing it anywhere else.

Dry dock project and port updates

If you’ve ever planned a spring break trip to 30A, you know it takes a little strategy.

Before you even get to the beach, you’re looking up parking, shuttle routes, and beach access points. There are rules, curfews for minors, "private vs public" beach areas to know, and during peak spring break weeks, the beaches fill up fast.

The sand and water are beautiful, but it’s busy and chaotic.

March is when things really start picking up around the Forgotten Coast. Spring break brings more visitors to town, the weather starts warming up, and the calendar fills up with local events, live music, and outdoor activities.
